The Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering (ASE) Symposium is the culminating learning event of the summer and enables the students to organize and synthesize their internship experiences. ASE interns present their work through poster sessions and 15-minute oral presentations. This enrichment activity is designed to broaden technical exposure and improve their speaking and presentation skills. Participants review and ask questions of peers’ projects and conclusions. Symposium is designed to broaden students’ technical expertise and strengthen their formal public speaking skills. It is also a critical learning event that enables interns to organize and synthesize what they’ve learned in the course of the internship.
Past ASE intern presentations included:
- It's A Jungle Out There: The Effect of Portland's Urban Canopy on Air Quality
- Computing Without Coding: A Story About Algorithms
- Bacterial Fight Club: Competition Between Agrobacteria
- Process Improvement...It's a Process
- ... and more!
This is a required event for all ASE interns. Mentors, parents and community guests are encouraged to attend.
