The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) is a federal power marketing administration (PMA) that sells wholesale electricity from 31 federal dams and one nuclear plant, providing about one-third of the electricity used in the Pacific Northwest. The intern selected for this position will learn from a variety of professionals from throughout BPA, with a focus on discovering how major transmission systems meet regulations. The intern will work primarily with an electrical engineer within BPA’s Agency Compliance & Governance organization. Through this work, the intern will gain familiarity with reliability standards, such as those set by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) regarding how transmission systems are to be planned and operated.
Internship activities will include but not be limited to data acquisition & analysis, documentation of processes and working with engineers to assess compliance with specific requirements. Depending upon interest, experience and aptitude, the intern may also have opportunities to interact with other parts of the organization, such as Financial Controls, Ethics, Purchasing and Property Governance, Records Management, or Internal Controls.
The internship will take place Vancouver, WA. Preference will be given to applicants who have a strong interest in electrical engineering. In addition to strong analytical and interpersonal skills, successful candidates will have both strong written and verbal communication skills.
