The Manufacturing Process Control Lab (MPCL) has the following goals:
- Improve accuracy and productivity of manufacturing equipment such as ultra-precision CNC machine tools, robots and 3D printers through mechatronic design and computer control algorithms.
- Design and optimize efficient manufacturing processes. Application areas include conventional and non-conventional manufacturing processes such as milling, turning and 3D printing
This internship will involve hands-on building of machines, mechatronics systems and components used in 3D printers and industrial robots. The goal of this project is to develop a robotic system than can perform manufacturing tasks that can only be done by humans so far. Prior experience with 3D printing, robots, manufacturing or programming is highly desirable. While the work will be done in collaboration with graduate students in the mentor's lab, there will be significant opportunities for the intern to take initiative and develop their own ideas.
