Allison Fritts-Penniman, PhD

Career Exploration Programs Manager

Allison has had a passion for learning and the outdoors since childhood, which she spent in upstate New York. Following her drive to learn about and protect the natural world, she achieved a B.S in Natural Resources from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Biology from UCLA. Her research on the evolution of coral reef animals sent her around the world, collecting specimens from tropical reefs and bringing them back to the lab to study their DNA.

During her time as a researcher, Allison developed a passion for sharing the world of science with others, working towards equity and justice in education, and providing opportunities for younger generations to pursue careers in STEM. She previously worked with Saturday Academy as an instructor, and now manages our Career Exploration Programs for high school students. Outside of work Allison enjoys baking, biking, live music, singing, playing/watching soccer (go Thorns!) and spending time with friends. She lives in North Portland with her cat Amalthea and dog Momo.
