Growing up, Amanda ( would spend hours and hours reading fantasy novels, and after being introduced to story-writing in the first grade, she wrote many short stories and chapter books of her own. She never lost her love for reading and writing and is now pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish with a minor in Writing at the University of Portland.
Amanda cherishes the opportunity to nurture the creative expression of young students because of how important it has been for her. This past year, Amanda worked at the Cathedral Park Performing Arts Collective in St. John's, where she helped young performers find the confidence and personal flair to perform onstage.
Amanda studied abroad in Granada, Spain, last fall, which exposed her to different customs, cultures, and philosophies about life. She believes that the best learning happens when we seek out new environments and are introduced to new experiences. For Amanda, learning isn't just about collecting knowledge but about expanding our realm of familiarity and seeking out new sources of interest and passion. She hopes to help fuel the curiosity and creativity of young minds through her work at Saturday Academy.
Fun fact: In the 4th grade, Amanda was selected to participate in a story contest and workshop where she submitted a story about a family of aliens.
