Position: Summer Camp Site Coordinator
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, Temporary Seasonal
Salary: $20 per hour
BACKGROUND: Founded in 1983, Saturday Academy (SA) is a small nonprofit that makes a big difference. Serving about 7,000 students per year, Saturday Academy provides hands-on learning in a way that enriches young lives and develops a life-long curiosity and passion for learning. Saturday Academy offers classes, summer camps, and afterschool programs throughout the Portland Metropolitan area (grades 2-12) and a high school internship program that is state wide. We inspire children to learn in nearly every field, but concentrate on science, technology, engineering, arts and math due to the importance of these to a successful society.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Saturday Academy is seeking seasonal temporary Site Coordinators to provide on-site supervision of our summer camps. The site coordinator is responsible for managing on-site operations including ensuring safety and security protocols are followed, communicating with parents and students, managing a smooth student check-in and check-out process, moving student groups between buildings, supervising students during breaks and lunches, moving supplies, and other duties to assist instructors and Saturday Academy staff. This position may have an assistant/counselor(s), intern(s) or volunteer(s) to supervise (depending on total student enrollment for each week). This position is supervised by the Classes Manager. Close coordination between this position and other staff members is essential, as is open communication with parents, students and instructors.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE OR EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working with children and parents.
- Experience as a site coordinator for afterschool programs, camps, or significant teaching experience including supervising complex activities.
- Flexibility, tact, and ability to defuse upset parents, teachers, or students
- The ability to handle concurrent issues and problem resolutions at camps.
- Passion for inspiring children to learn.
- Must have valid driver’s license, car insurance and access to reliable vehicle to transport supplies to sites as needed
- Must be able to lift and move boxes of books and supplies (up to 50 pounds each) and use handcarts to transport supplies in and out of vehicles, storage areas, or classrooms.
- Must be able to attend required half-day training (early June TBD)
- Available full-time Monday – Friday, during the weeks of June 15th to August 21st. Job appointments may be for 1 to 10 weeks in duration depending on staffing needs and coordinator availability.
- CPR/First Aid Certification
