BACKGROUND
Founded in 1983, Saturday Academy (SA) is a nonprofit educational organization that helps thousands of youth experience hands-on learning with community experts in a way that enriches young lives and develops a life-long curiosity and passion for learning. Saturday Academy offers classes, summer camps, and afterschool programs throughout the Portland Metropolitan area (grades 2-12) as well as a state-wide high school internship program placing students in some of Oregon’s most well-known businesses. We inspire children to pursue their curiosity, but concentrate our programming on topics in science, technology, engineering, arts and math. Saturday Academy operates on a $1.6 million annual budget and is invested in building up the administrative and financial infrastructure to adequately support the growing organization.
POSITION OVERVIEW
Saturday Academy seeks a proactive, collaborative, mission-oriented, creative leader to join a team of talented staff, educators, and Board Members in the role of Multimedia Manager. The position offers a unique opportunity to leverage design and marketing expertise to contribute significantly to Saturday Academy’s programs and mission through intentional design work and strategic visioning across diverse mediums. This position functions as a critical member of the team amplifying our community presence and supporting strategy development to increase awareness. This position reports to the Executive Director and has the benefit of working cross-departmentally with the full team. Must be a mission-focused manager who can develop authentic relationships, manage multiple simultaneous projects, and identifies as a storyteller with recognition of the transformational (not transactional) nature of marketing.
PRIMARY DUTIES INCLUDE
MARKETING MANAGEMENT:
- Generates and executes a yearly communication schedule that includes internal and external partners.
- Functions as the primary website administrator making edits and managing content for each department.
- Writes press releases and community-centered newsletters/blog posts for e-dissemination.
- Social Media content curator and manager for all social media platforms.
- Maintains our photo archive and operates as the organizational photographer for all programs and events.
- Provides training to extend the capacity of the staff to support this effort.
- Provides data analysis and strategy support for the organization.
- Oversight of organizational style guide and standards, monitoring brand consistency across all print and digital collateral.
- Spearheads re-branding support initiatives and is a primary collaborator on an ongoing website revamp project with an external vendor.
- Maintains a set on the Marketing & Strategic Communications Subcommittee with the Board.
- Contributes to budget management of expenses.
GRAPHIC DESIGN and MULTIMEDIA SUPPORT:
- Primary graphic designer for the organization for all departmental print and digital communications.
- Manages printing relationships.
- Designs and places all advertisements.
- Video editing for educational support pieces, trailers/teasers for programs, and storytelling components of the annual Discovery Gala.
- A thought-partner in generating new and exciting entry points for storytelling liaising around targeted initiatives such as podcasting, press management, and content highlights.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:
- Represent Saturday Academy at community events, tabling for programming, and documenting partnerships thoroughly.
- Support the creation of sustainable educational materials as needed.
- Provide market research for DEI initiatives that relate to vendor management.
- Amplify key community stories and strategize around initiatives to to broaden our base of engagement.
DESIRED SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE:
- At least three years of professional experience in graphic design and/or marketing sectors.
- Flexible, trustworthy, creative thinker with a sense of humor with a proven track record of strong management.
- Understanding of current trends in social media spheres and multimedia landscapes.
- A strong desire to tackle rebranding in the current ecosystem. Bonus if there is previous experience in this area.
- Relentless curiosity with the ability to productively explore existing systems and engage in solution-oriented, streamlined systems-thinking across the team.
- Enjoys helping people and celebrates a commitment to education and the student experience
- Demonstrates a track record of creative storytelling.
- Positive thought leader with the ability to manage multiple long-term projects.
- Ability to communicate transparently, respectfully, and effectively across mediums and with stakeholders of varied cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Excellent customer service skill and an eye for organizational detail.
- Very strong oral and written communicator with an aptitude for copy editing.
- Experience with e-marketing platforms, social media spaces, and video editing software.
- Ability to work or attend occasional SA events on evenings and weekends.
- Access to a reliable vehicle for community work and current driver’s license and insurance.
- Ability to lift and move boxes of books and supplies, (up to 30 pounds each) and transport supplies in and out of vehicles, storage areas, or classrooms.
- Background check required.
