Rey (they/he) developed a passion for helping young people connect and grow in their former role as Career Exploration Programs and Development Associate at Saturday Academy. With a background that includes counseling and stage management with a vibrant children’s theater camp, and several years supporting middle and high school students in Portland, Rey brings a unique perspective to their position that emphasizes curiosity, equity, and the joy of lifelong learning.
They received their BA from the University of Oregon, where they studied Globalization, Environment, and Public Policy. This lens provided a keen insight into the intricate systems that young people are navigating, and a strong desire to be part of the transformative power of hands-on learning.
As a scholar of this world themselves, Rey has a deep appreciation for nature, and can often be found at a snail’s level, navigating through verdant beds of moss, mushrooms, and rock formations. While most likely to be spotted with a camera in hand, Rey enjoys expressing themselves through many art forms, including writing, wire sculpture, and clothing alterations. In their downtime, they enjoy pursuing eclectic knowledge through essays and documentaries.
