RJ Urquhart (they/them) has a background spanning education, science, and technology, with a passion for bringing creativity into S.T.E.M. A strong advocate for S.T.E.A.M., RJ believes that asking “why” and “how” is just as important as finding answers—and that curiosity is the foundation of critical thinking and problem solving.
With experience ranging from engineering and mentoring in the tech industry to their current work as a user experience (UX) researcher, RJ blends technical expertise with a deep appreciation for how people learn.
Their approach emphasizes kinesthetic learning encouraging hands-on exploration, helping youth follow their natural curiosity while developing essential skills for the future. RJ holds a degree from the University of Oregon (Go Ducks), where they studied a wide variety of subjects with emphases history and biology to better understand the connections between how things work and why they came to be. They’ve worked with learners of all ages, from early childhood through college, and continue to bring curiosity-driven learning to every environment they’re part of.
Outside of work, RJ enjoys baking, exploring our beautiful city of Portland, OR and, and spending time with their spouse and their cat.
