Summer fun and learning are here! Interested in learning math concepts with a twist? If so, Le Kisha Moore's class, “What Are the Odds? A Fun Look at Probability” is the class for you. Chance, probability, risk, and choices all impact our daily lives. Explore probability through a math lens of interesting real-world situations, like learning probability using your favorite video game, the stock market, Monte Carlo simulations, or The Monty Hall Problem.
Le Kisha Moore is a Stanford graduate who owns her own tutoring company. Math is her passion and she is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in mathematics education. She has been tutoring for over 20 years (Moore 4 More Tutoring) and teaching ACT/SAT prep for over 10 years. We asked Le Kisha to share with us some background on her passion for math and her upcoming class.
Question: What drives your passion for teaching or passion for the subjects that you teach?
Le Kisha: I have loved all things math since I was in elementary school. I started tutoring in high school and gained a passion for wanting to see all students succeed in math (even if they don't love it). Now as a teacher, I try to create an atmosphere that makes students comfortable and ready to learn.
Question: What are you most excited for your students to learn about in your class?
Le Kisha: That math can be fun and interesting.
Question: What are some major takeaways from your class?
Le Kisha: How probability and statistics are more a part of their life than they realize. It's everywhere!
Le Kisha's class, What Are the Odds? A Fun Look at Probability starts on June 28 at Open School East for students in grades 9-12. We are committed to making it possible for all students to participate in classes regardless of financial circumstances.
