    Get involved with Saturday Academy!

    We have a variety of volunteer opportunities in areas such as marketing, administration, special events, mentorships and instruction. Opportunities can be accomplished on an individual level or group level! Volunteering with Saturday Academy not only serves our mission but offers invaluable hands-on experience in the realm of education and non-profit work.

    When: General Spring and Summer
    Where: University of Portland

    Work directly with our Multimedia Manager on all aspects of marketing and communications. As a Marketing Volunteer your tasks may include:

    • Market research
    • Social media 
    • Website updates
    • Photography
    • Videography

     

    When: July 15th, 2024 | All-day
    Where: University of Portland

    This conference is a full day of activities, and the only opportunity for all 74 of our ASE interns to meet each other in person. We have four objectives for the day:

    1. Give students the opportunity to meet professionals and learn about careers outside of their internship area of focus.
    2. Provide guidance for how to prepare a Symposium presentation.
    3. Learn about the college application and selection process.
    4. Make new friends!

    Volunteer Needs

    Morning (8am-12:30pm): 

    • Set up/clean up breakfast (and eat!)
    • Check in students and hand out packets
    • Check in guest speakers and workshop leaders
    • Provide directions to various campus locations
    • Set up/clean up outdoor activity (design/engineering challenge)
    • Set up lunch (and eat!)

    Afternoon (12-4:30pm): 

    • Assist with workshop setup as needed
    • Clean up lunch (and eat!)
    • Provide directions to various campus locations
    • Assist with workshop facilitation (pending need from leaders)
    • Set up/clean up ice cream social (and eat!)
    • Help pack up supplies at end of day

     

    When: General Spring and Summer
    Where: University of Portland

    Help us spring-clean our workspace!

    • Tuesday, May 7th and Friday, May 10th: We need someone who would be able to make a run to the dump for us. We will cover the cost of going to the dump. Items to be taken include a small table, old corkboards, and other odds and ends.
    • Do you know how to sew? We are looking to put up some drapes to cover storage in our upstairs co-working space. We would love to have someone who could create some drapery for us to use.
    • Help us reorganize our storage spaces to make them more efficient and to facilitate easier access to the tech and supply needs that we have throughout the year.
    • We want to rearrange our office furniture to make our space more efficient. Some physical strength is required as it will involve moving chairs, desks, and computers around.

    We need assistance in preparing our supplies and conducting inventory checks. Tasks include creating evergreen educator supply kits, sorting Legos, assembling Lego kits, wiping old data from laptops and tablets, and updating software for laptop kits, among others. This takes place at our office at the University of Portland.

    Virtual End-of-Program Symposium
    Thursday, August 10, 2023 - Zoom

    Thank you for your interest in supporting Saturday Academy! We have an opportunity to help support our ASE program. if you're available and willing to volunteer, please let us know your preferred role by End of Day, Friday, August 9th.

    Virtual End-of-Program Symposium
    Thursday, August 15, 2024 - Zoom

    This online conference is ASE’s culminating event, where students give formal presentations on what they have accomplished and learned in their internships that summer. Students will also hear a keynote address from an esteemed expert in the field of health and policy journalism.

    Volunteer/Staff Needs

    Tech Support (10:45 am - 1:45 pm): Each Tech Support person will be responsible for all technical aspects of one Zoom room during the Symposium.

    Main duties:

    • Start the Zoom meeting using a Zoom account assigned by Saturday Academy
    • Ensure the session is being recorded
    • Admit people from the waiting room
    • Mute someone if they accidentally come off mute and speak over whoever is speaking
    • Remove any unanticipated Zoom disruptors
    • Communicate with ASE staff about how things are going in your room

    CURRENT NEED: 4 Volunteers

    Presentation Room Presiders (10:45 am - 1:45 pm): Each Presider will be the official facilitator (master of ceremonies if you will) for one Zoom room during the Symposium

    Main duties:

    • Introduce the session
    • Introduce each speaker
    • Take attendance for the interns required to be in that room
    • Report to Allison if anyone is missing
    • Keep time during presentations
    • Facilitate Q&A
    • Make closing remarks at the end of the session
