Volunteer Spotlight Interview: Brian Hamilton

Today we are featuring one of our dedicated volunteers, Brian Hamilton! Brian started volunteering with us in 2017 and has been supporting us ever since. This is Brian’s second spotlight on our blog because his dedication to our work has meant so much to us over the years. Brian is a great asset to Saturday Academy and is always willing to assist the staff with various tasks throughout the year.

A Bridge Between Classes & Internships: STEAM Career Tracks

From August to December, Saturday Academy piloted STEAM Career Tracks, a new program to bridge our classes and internship (ASE) program. The pilot was a success! The core goal of the program was to connect high school students to professional development resources and career exploration workshops. STEAM Career Tracks provided workshops in architecture, computer science and programming, environmental science, engineering, medicine and biochemistry and bioengineering to twenty-six high school-age participants.

Upcoming Changes at Saturday Academy

Today, we announce the departure of Jackie Wirz, PhD, as Executive Director of Saturday Academy. Jackie will be leaving Saturday Academy to open a coaching and consultation business focused on supporting students and professionals in the STEM disciplines. The Board of Directors is extremely appreciative to Jackie for her ability to keep the train on the tracks during such a challenging time.

Thank you for a summer full of STEAM engagement!

This summer was AWESOME!

With the hard work of our staff, Saturday Academy held 55 in-person classes, 17 online classes, and 69 ASE internships. We are so grateful to witness those "ah-ha" moments in person again.

Letter from Our Executive Director - July 2021

Summer is officially here – I hope you’ve been enjoying sunny days outside, perfectly melty ice cream, and getting together with friends and family! (Speaking of ice cream, here is a little ice cream science experiment to try at home! See below for the experiment) It is so exciting to be learning with you in person, as our summer classes and camps are now in full swing.
