Letter from Our Executive Director

2021 – it’s finally here! And for many of us in the Portland area, we were gifted with a little bit of snow towards the end of January. While it didn’t stick, it inspired me to make some instant ice. Our very own Chief Development and Marketing Officer, Laura Elmore, embarked on an exciting expedition this January. Laura will be touring all 62 National Parks as part of her personal journey to explore and share methods for healing in nature or ecotherapy.

ASE Success - Made Possible Online!

Despite the uncertainties presented by COVID-19 and the unexpected need to transition to an online platform, 61 virtual internships provided STEM career opportunities for high school students across Oregon. Though it seemed impossible to virtually deliver the same quality apprenticeships that define the ASE program, this summer it proved not only to be possible but also deeply enriching for mentors and mentees alike.

Are you a high school student thinking of a career in science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM)? Are you curious what skills or education you need, or what it’s like in a day to day setting? Employment in STEM fields, especially healthcare, tech, cybersecurity, and engineering continue to be on the rise. For the last 37 years, Saturday Academy has been there to foster students’ interest in exploring these pathways for their future.
