Happy Halloween! In honor of this festive day of costumes and storytelling, we will explore careers in the professional world of theatrical design. The day will include a costuming workshop, an inside look at theatre in a higher education setting, and opportunities to network with theater industry professionals across Portland.
Days OFF! Career Pathways in Higher Education @ Portland State University
High school students in grades 9-12 are invited to experience the cutting edge research at the Oregon National Primate Research Center that helps us understand, prevent, and treat human disease. Learn all about careers in biomedical research from experts in reproductive biology, the science of aging, alcohol and drug use disorders, and infectious diseases. This special experience will give students an exclusive glimpse behind the scenes with the primate populations that make it all possible!
Note: Students will need to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
How are chips made? No, not the tasty snack - the advanced microchips embedded in electronic devices, cars, medical equipment, and more, enabling modern life as we know it. Lam Research is a global semiconductor innovation company of leaders, engineers, and scientists collaborating to make new chip designs become a reality. On this Day Off, students will get an in-depth look at the evolution of semiconductor technology and microchip creation at Lam Research’s Tualatin offices.

In this workshop, grade 9-12 students will learn directly from the Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) about their work designing and maintaining a safe and healthy urban environment. Students will meet BES Engineers Emily Morrissey, Margaret Russell, Bhargavi Ambadkar, and J'reyesha Brannon. This session will be hosted at the Columbia Boulevard Wastewater Treatment Plant (5001 N Columbia Blvd, Portland, OR 97203).
