On this Days Off! students will learn about the diversity of careers devoted to designing and maintaining a safe and healthy urban environment. This interdisciplinary field requires collaboration between governmental organizations, nonprofits, private companies, and research institutions.
Our host, Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, protects public health and our environment by collecting and recovering resources from the city’s wastewater, managing stormwater, and restoring and protecting Portland’s rivers, streams, and watersheds. Attendees will receive a behind the scenes tour of the Wastewater Treatment Plant from Engineer and Treatment and Pumping Systems Division Manager Bhargavi Ambadkar.
We will be joined by a representative from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality for a lunchtime chat about their work advancing environmental protection and justice around the state. Lunch is included!
