Meet Dr. Arnaud Prevot, instructor of the upcoming Tech Skills for Success in Middle School online class. He has been teaching students about technology for over a decade now. "Technology is a lot of fun, but it also requires a certain level of responsibility. I very much enjoy teaching computer science because what I can give to the students is something that is practical," he said. "Students need these basic tech skills, not only because the world is hyper-competitive, but also they are digital citizens. Just like a regular citizen needs to know how to cross the street, how to fill out paperwork, and so on, a digital citizen needs to know these tech skills." Dr. Prevot also likes to teach Scratch 3.0 and Digital Citizenship and is satisfied when students come back to say they have used what they learned in their everyday life.
"He is awesome. Give him a promotion"
-Scratch 3.0 student speaking about Dr. Prevot
This class aims to teach those basic tech skills to make you a better digital citizen. Learning how to find information, cite that information, type efficiently, and use a word processor are all part of a skill set that will make your life easier. Dr. Prevot thinks students will be the most surprised to learn that even the most mundane applications can be helpful to them. His past students have found that Excel or Google Sheets can help them in their math work. Most importantly, according to Dr. Prevot, this class will give you skills for life, "This isn't something that they will learn and then forget. No one in my classes has ever asked the dreaded question, 'When are we ever going to use this!?'"
