BACKGROUND:
Founded in 1983, Saturday Academy (SA) is a nonprofit educational organization that helps thousands of youth experience hands-on learning with community experts in a way that enriches young lives and develops a life-long curiosity and passion for learning. Saturday Academy offers classes, summer camps, and afterschool programs throughout the Portland Metropolitan area (grades k-12) as well as a state-wide high school internship program placing students in some of Oregon’s most well-known businesses. We inspire children to pursue their curiosity, but concentrate our programming on topics in science, technology, engineering, arts and math. POSITION OVERVIEW:
Saturday Academy is looking for individuals who have a passion for supporting STEAM based educational experiences, and who have a passion for childcare in Grades K-8. As an After Camp Specialist your responsibilities will include supporting the Site Leads in running end of day gathering and transition time, assisting in the check-out of campers, guiding structured activities and unstructured free play throughout Creative Childcare, distributing snacks and checking out campers to their parents. This position is responsible for ensuring a safe and fun environment for the well-being of every camper as they end their camp day. Close coordination and communication with Educators and Saturday Academy internal staff is essential to the success of our summer camps.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Functions as primary communication hub for staff, students, and parents alike.
- Distributes critical parent communication throughout the week, ensuring top-notch customer service.
- Facilitates check-in for each day of summer camp.
- Ensures set-up, supply distribution, and strong supervisory support of all administrative processes through camp day.
- Maintains database projects and supports individual giving initiatives as assigned.
- Provide supportive and compassionate group management strategies throughout programming while supporting individual need
- Maintain high levels of engagement throughout the afternoon
- Provide for the well-being and safety of campers by meeting physical and emotional needs in compliance with the state and organization’s policies.
- File and organize internal systems and work on long term research projects for the organization.
- Support volunteer coordination for Career Explorations Events, as well as, events on-site and projects associated with ASE (Apprenticeships in Science and Engineering Program).
- Manage summer supply inventory.
DESIRED SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in an administrative setting managing multiple tasks for prioritization.
- Previous experience in childcare or babysitting multiple children in Grades K-8.
- Passionate commitment to the transformative power of hands-on learning
- Experience working with diverse populations in childcare, in-school or out-of-school setting
- Positively supports inclusion in all forms: ethnic, gender, gender identity, religious/spiritual affiliations, disabilities, political perspectives, etc.

- Possesses strong oral communication skills

- Works well independently and as part of a cohesive team
