    Paying Forward a Love of Math

    Roger Eiss has been teaching for Saturday Academy for more than 25 years. He was close friends with Saturday Academy co-founder, Gail Whitney, and served on the board of directors. He was always good at math and discovered that there were many aspects of math he had learned on his own that could be learned by doing puzzles. After rotating off the board, he was recruited to teach a Saturday Academy class on recreational mathematics problems, showing students how to solve math problems when they don’t know the methods.

    Instructor Highlight: Fadi Labib

    Access and use of the internet are now more important than ever. With limited in-person access to businesses, being able to effectively communicate through a web page can be a lifeline. Instructor Fadi Labib, is offering a new class for high school students called Web Design Using Bootstrap and Javascript. I interviewed Fadi on his new class, what he has in store for his students, and what he’s most excited to share.

    Math is more than numbers! Rubik's Snakes, Mathlink Cubes and Geometric Construction kits are used as hands-on ways of visualizing math in our upcoming Math Connections class.

    Congratulations Lumencor!

    Congratulations to our longtime ASE partner Lumencor, Inc which has been named an Honoree in the 2020 Makers and Manufacturing Awards Program by the Portland Business Journal. In a virtual roundtable, Claudia B. Jaffe, Ph.D., Co-founder and Executive Vice President talks about how to continue innovation throughout the COVID19 pandemic and maintain staff morale, among other topics. She even mentions how the quality of ASE interns contributes to Lumencor, Inc's success and community building in Portland.
