Mead & Hunt, Inc.

Civil Engineering Intern

Civil Engineering Intern
Assist a civil engineering team on a water resources project.

Mead & Hunt, a nationally recognized design firm with offices across the country, are experts in planning, design, engineering, and architecture, serving markets nationwide. Their values are to put people first, do the right thing, and do what makes sense. They take engineering ethics very seriously and take that into consideration in our planning, design, and business growth.

The selected intern will work with a team of engineers on a variety of water related projects. Projects include studying and designing stormwater, potable water, and wastewater systems. They will help the team with research, report writing, hydrologic and hydraulic model inputs, and construction plan development. Tasks will include using AutoCAD, GIS, and various Microsoft tools. It is expected there will be some team collaboration and independent learning.

Over the course of the summer, the intern will develop an understanding of what a career in water resources engineering could look like. The intern will also meet people in other disciplines in the office, including architects and aviation engineers, so that they can get some experience of what other options in civil engineering are available to them. This is a full-time internship, with the expectation that the intern will work at least 300 hours over the course of the summer.

The mentor's approach is to provide their mentees with as many different types of tasks as possible to give them exposure to all aspects of what the team does. They believe it is important to try to meet the intern where they're at, figure out what their best learning method is, and then try to tailor a program that will allow them to succeed based on that. The student should know that no question is a dumb question, and the mentor will try to make themselves available any time they have a question to ask.

We strongly encourage students to apply who are from one or more systemically and historically excluded group, including but not limited to, non-cis-gendered students, girls, BIPOC, first-generation college bound students, low-income/low-resourced students, students with disabilities, who are neurodivergent, and those who speak a primary language other than English.

This internship will be taking place in-person as permitted by Federal/State/Local/Mead & Hunt, Inc. guidelines. To reduce the risks of coronavirus exposure, mentors and interns will act in accordance with applicable COVID guidelines and procedures. Selected applicants will be required to review and sign a waiver agreement.

If you have any questions about the application, website technical issues and/or this position description, please contact Saturday Academy at ase@saturdayacademy.org. Do not contact the mentor directly. Contacting the mentor directly is grounds for disqualification of your ASE application.
