Girls Engage Technology Program has Expanded to Hillsboro

This fall, Saturday Academy expanded the Girls Engage Technology (GET) program to partner with afterschool all-girl STEM clubs in five Hillsboro middle schools. The goal of the GET program is to provide positive engineering experiences to young girls to give them confidence, so they take the next step in STEM learning. Partnering with the STEM clubs allows the GET program to expose girls to various aspects of STEM to pave the way for them to enroll in more STEM classes in high school. GET is providing four weeks of programming for the STEM clubs.

    Succession

    Dear Saturday Academy Community,

I am writing to tell you that I am retiring, to thank you for over eight years in the most fun and rewarding job as Executive Director that can be imagined, and to ask you to help Saturday Academy find a fabulous new leader.  I will remain on the job until a new leader is in place.  Our search firm, Page Two Partners welcomes queries: SAsearch@pagetwopartners.com.  See the job announcement here.

Just Try It – STEM Career Exploration

As students approach their senior year, it seems the number of people who ask “so what do you plan to do next?” increases exponentially. For those who have known what they want to do since forever, the answer is easy. For the majority of students, however, it’s a big question.

The good news is that committing to one career and workplace for the rest of your life is a relic of previous generations. The bad news is that becoming good at any skill or career can take a lot of time and money, so the sooner you find something that you enjoy doing day-in and day-out the better.

    About the Program
The Apprenticeships in Science & Engineering (ASE) program connects motivated high school students with mentors in pre-professional science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) internships. Internships are eight-week, full-time summer positions, designed by mentors themselves.

    Photography: From Inspiration to Community

As a photographer who was inspired in my youth, I now enjoy inspiring, empowering and encouraging children to communicate what is important to them. In teaching photography, I help my students find and develop their voice.
