Amber Burrows as a child could be found climbing trees, caring for urban wildlife friends, her younger siblings and all of the children in the neighborhood, occasionally living her best life on the shores and in the waters of the Great Lakes. A teacher is all she ever wanted to be, because to her they were real-life superheroes. Her degree in Secondary Education with an English Language focus nearly complete, she took an Environmental Science class to fulfill a requirement, and her passion for kinship with the natural world was reignited. With a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Sustainable Business obtained from Aquinas College, training in Reggio-Emilia, Montessori, and Waldorf educational philosophies, Trauma-Informed Care, and Social Emotional Learning, for the past 16 years she has worked within education and childcare in a variety of capacities while raising her own children. She comes to Saturday Academy with years of experience designing, managing, and teaching in Portland Public Schools’ before and after school programs focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion, firmly believing nothing is sustainable unless it is accessible to everyone, and the path to a peaceful planet is through education. Amber enjoys making magical memories here in the Pacific Northwest with her family, music, getting crafty, cuddling up with her fur babies, and feeding her friends her latest kitchen concoctions because science brings us together and is delicious!
