    Introducing Saturday Academy's Equity Statement

From: Jeri Janowsky, Ph.D., Previous Executive Director for Saturday Academy

Saturday Academy recently completed a year-long training on equity and inclusion.  Why?  Because inspiring curiosity in all children means understanding them; where they are coming from and their specific needs.   After all, the students we serve today are the future of our community.

My Busy Week at Saturday Academy

By Lanie Van Vleet, 6th grader and Saturday Academy Volunteer

Hi. My name is Lanie Van Vleet. I am 11 years old and I am a Sellwood Middle School student in the sixth grade. Before now I had never worked in my mom Libby Van Vleet’s office and decided it would be fun to learn more about Saturday Academy and the ASE Program. So I volunteered.

What Happened to TAG Challenge Camp?

Saturday Academy (SA) was founded 35 years ago with the mission to engage young learners to follow their curiosity in science and technology.

“Back in 1983 it Gail Whitney and Jackie Jackson worked in PPS and they noticed a lot of really bright kids weren’t engaging so they developed a model where students could follow their curiosity with hands-on learning.” – Gail Pyle, former Director of Classes & Camps at Saturday Academy*
