As students approach their senior year, it seems the number of people who ask “so what do you plan to do next?” increases exponentially. For those who have known what they want to do since forever, the answer is easy. For the majority of students, however, it’s a big question.
The good news is that committing to one career and workplace for the rest of your life is a relic of previous generations. The bad news is that becoming good at any skill or career can take a lot of time and money, so the sooner you find something that you enjoy doing day-in and day-out the better.
There are so many career options now that it boggles the mind. At Saturday Academy, we focus on Science-Tech-Engineering-Math (STEM) because these fields are changing and growing so rapidly that there is a need for innovative, creative young people to join the team. We believe a good way to find out if you’re interested in a career is to try it.
Our hands-on classes taught by experienced professionals are designed to encourage students to explore and experiment. Finding out what you don’t like can be just as helpful as discovering what career topics inspire you!
To that end we are excited to introduce a series of one-day workshops led by real-world professionals at their place of work. It’s more than just an opportunity to job shadow. It’s a chance to get a peek at the culture of a business, meet multiple people who work there and get a sense of all the different roles it takes for a team to tick. It’s a chance to ask questions and get hands-on exposure to a variety of careers in the Portland-Metro area.
